Last week, I did a little post about Myth Music, the label headed up by Berlin-based Lando. Turns out, his buddy Tim Xavier has a similarly brilliant label in Face To Face Recordings. The third release – Power House Rhythm Unit – injects some well-needed groove and soul into the dark depths of techno.
Lead track ‘Power House Rhythm Unit’ has that Radio Slave feel to it, with an infectious vocal over the top of a booming bass. ‘Run From It’ and ‘Wander’ explore a gentler side of techno, whilst my favourite track, ‘My Pet Human’ incorporates the bleepy minimal sound with the harder side of house and techno.
For the more audio astute readers, there may be subtle differences in the sound of the recording to what you’re used to. Xavier runs Manmade Mastering in Berlin, and has come up with a genius way of giving the final tracks a bit of fine-tuning. In FIIF003, they decided to cut a series of dubplates at 45rpm, record the music back to DAW and A & B against the original analog masters…in other words, the music is recorded from vinyl and maximized!
