Eastern Electrics 2014 – 1st Wave Line Up & Location Announcement

The first wave of acts for the Eastern Electrics Festival 2014 have just been announced and its looking like another great party is on its way come Saturday 2nd August. The organisers have brought in Art Department, Ellen Allien, Kerri Chandler, Chart topper Route 94, Tania Vulcano and tINI to get the ball rolling before the final the full 30 extra jocks are announced.

The return of the mighty Eastern Electrics festival in 2014 brings with it some minor tweaks and changes to guarantee another fitting summer home for the best in Electronic music. The location has moved again to Hatfield House in Hertfordshire… about 20 minutes out of London by train and only a minutes walk from the train station to the festival site.

Promoter Rob Star says “The new venue also means that we can retain all of the attractions that made last year’s event at Knebworth so special, including the Electric City, the fairground rides, the bespoke stages and our favourite pub the Star of EE. Hatfield House ticks all the boxes for us and we’re certain that this will be the first of many Eastern Electrics Festival events here. Welcome to your new EE home!”

The Qube Opening Night with Martin Buttrich

London’s The Qube announced itself with bold intentions in the weeks leading up to opening: it claimed it would be a place for music lovers to find, would not line-up tens of DJs on a catch all flyer but instead would focus on the good stuff. Located in a basement in Victoria, few details emerged before the opening night except that Martin Buttrich would be playing. We now know that Nick Curly also played a secret gig there weeks before full launch, meaning the club had wisely done a dummy run to make sure the opening night proper went smoothly.

And it did. As soon as we arrived staff made us fell welcome and we were taken to the VIP area. The club itself is not a huge space – so perfect for those more intimate gatherings – and has well placed speakers to ensure maximum sonic impact. There are lighting panels, a light cube that gives the place its name and the style is clean, chic and futuristic without being too fussy.

For the first few hours it was the residents who were in charge, mixing up warm house and sparkling disco to a crowd of good looking and trendy people who seemed intent on having a good time. Importantly these residents pitched it just right – they didn’t try to steal the limelight or smash the dancefloor, instead they treated it carefully and manipulated folk into ever more energetic dances at the headliner slot drew near.

When Desolat man and Loco Dice wingman Buttrich stepped up to the controls he was sublime. He waved tightly knit electronic beats with tripped melodies and plenty of fresh sounds we hadn’t heard before. Crowd reactions were worthy of the big man and for a first night it really did go off. In the coming months the likes of Derrick Carter, Ninetoes, Applebottom and Fur Coat to name a few will all be dropping by, meaning that The Qube is likely to have a fantastic year ahead.
