It’s an absolute scorcher in the SB office today…and that’s not just because of the weather. It’s because we’ve realised one of our favourite festivals is just around the corner…Lovebox!! Split over two days across 14th – 15th July and as always taking over Victoria Park, the London festival is celebrating its fifteenth anniversary this year. Friday will see Frank Ocean (hopefully) headline whilst Saturday brings Chase and Status as the main attraction.

Alongside the main event during the day, there are also some very tasty ‘After Dark’ parties lined up to keep the party going. The likes of Ricardo Villalobos, Seth Troxler, Mike Servito and Late Nite Tuff Guy will all be lining up across various venues in London including Oval Space, fabric and Village Underground. Our personal highlight has got to Bicep and Gerd Janson at Oval Space on the Friday night. If Bicep’s recent live shows are anything to go by, it should be a sizzler.

So for the festival itself, we’ve picked out some of our personal favs over the two days.

Bicep
Probably the most ‘in’ dance act around at the moment. London based, Belfast born duo Matt McBriar and and Andy Ferguson have been utilising their encyclopaedic knack for house and techno selection on which their name as bloggers was made as well as releasing tracks on their own for a good number of years – ‘Just’ being a highlight. Their remixes have also struck a chord. Last year’s retune of Isaac Tichauer’s ‘Higher Level’ was one of the stand out tracks of the year. The boys will be an absolute highlight at Lovebox. With a very well oiled live show and some stonkingly good new tunes forthcoming on their new album, we can’t wait to see what they bring to Victoria Park and Oval Space for the afters.

Jamie xx
The xx chief beat maker is still riding high on a wave of success. Following a hugely successful debut album with In Colour and another knockout xx album, a headline set from one of London’s most diverse selectors is something to look forward to.

Ricardo Villalobos
Not much more can be said about the minimal maestro. Villalobos is generally marmite – you either love him and ‘get’ him…or you don’t. There are very few inbetween’s. However, for those that ‘get’ him, he’s provided hours and hours of mindblowing sounds and defined a genre by himself. His DJ sets usually knock it out the park (the less said about 2015’s Cocoon In The Park, the better) and cherished by his many worshippers. After last years Lovebox appearance cancelled due to illness, we’re excited to see what he brings to the fabric stage.

Kölsch
Danish native and Kompakt stalwart, Rune Reilly Kölsch has sold an absolute bucket load of records having produced under many monikers over the past decade. A true techno head with huge tours and showcase performances at some of the biggest clubs in the world, we’re very excited to see what he brings to Victoria Park. If it’s pianos and house music you’re looking for, Kölsch is your man.

KiNk
Last, and by no means least, it’s KiNK – one of house music’s most in demand producers and remixers. A class leader when it comes to ‘Live’ acts having topped the pile of RA’s top live acts of 2016. With an arsenal of drum machines, percussion instruments, keyboards and whatever he can get his hands on, he’s more of a one man band than a DJ. His performance at Lovebox should be something special.
