Interview: Adam Shelton for FACT

FACT caught up with Adam Shelton ahead of his show with them at The Loft, Barcelona on Friday 20th February.

Hi Adam, How are you?
I am really good thanks, feeling fresh and enjoying the start of the year.

We have the pleasure of having you at The Loft in Barcelona this Friday, what can our guests expect to hear?
Well a small selection of records i have been buying lately are tracks from Gene hunt, Mandar, Dana ruh, Hakim murphy, Vincent floyd and many more, so i hope i can be spinning these in the club on friday.

What does 2015 look like for Adam Shelton?
2015 has started really well, i had a great january detox which has been cool for planning label stuff, party plans and music for the year ahead, i had my in haus wax release come out at the end of 2014 which did really well so the buzz of that has carried me in to the new year.
i have finished my release for one records, a 3 track release all my own stuff that comes out around may / june time.
Gigs ahead are cool too, we still have a few 5 years of one records parties to go, we had a great one at the end of january at fabric, its always so nice in there and the full crew was there. good times.

Lets talk One Records, for anyone not familiar can you basically give us some background into the label, notable releases and things lined up this year?
One records is 5 years old now, a label started by myself and subb-an whilst we were both living together at the rainbow in Birmingham, the label has had releases from Alex arnout, Hector, John dimas, samu.L, Burnski, Anthea and many more with remixes from Point G, Martin buttrich, Ed davenport, Tristan da cunha, Clive henry to name a few. this year will see releases from Subb-an, myself, iO(mulen) & Alex arnout and label parties at some of the hottest clubs and parties in the world.

Can you tell us a bit more about your below parties in Birmingham (and elsewhere)?
My party below in birmingham is now coming to a close after 10 years, the reason for it ending is the fact of wanting to finish on a high note, the parties are so good in terms of atmosphere, the crowd is so up for it and our following is loyal and strong. but i know how things can change, people grow older and move away from parties and its our core crowd that keeps the party going, i don’t want to see this fade away and the party loose its identity, we have booked so many amazing dis over the years, too many to name, its been an amazing journey and platform for me and i will be sad to see it go.
I am starting a new project outside of the UK in the summer which i am really excited about, somewhere fresh and a place i see a new scene in electronic music building, news to follow.

What’s the one track you’ll be playing this Friday and the one that has been doing it for you in your sets recently?
I would say a track by john swing called don’t want it on relative records, i love this track and have been playing it all over the winter.

Who are you tipping for this year as a breakthrough artist?
I am really digging iO(mulen) from Ukraine at the moment, i see him having a very good year, his productions are really stand out, we are doing a release on one records with him which i am really excited about with a Cab drivers remix, this is out in may. check him out for sure if you have not already.
